Horsham house converted into state-of-the-art care home

Our team of experienced electricians in Horsham recently helped convert an empty eight-bed property into a state-of-the-art service for individuals with complex needs, run by Active Prospects.

The converted property now includes four self-contained one-bed flats, designed to offer local people with disabilities the opportunity to move from long-term hospital environments to their own flat.

Working with main contractor Burren & Whitaker Construction Ltd, Barton Knight Electrical completed a full rewire including running a new mains supply. The project was completed in 3-4 months and the electrical works included fitting-out the living area, kitchen, bathroom and bedroom for each flat, as well as the separate office space.

Lighting included downlights, emergency escape lighting (to enable safe exit in the event of a mains failure), and motion-sensor security lights outside around the perimeter of the building. Electrics were also installed for bespoke emergency panic buttons to ensure the future residents’ safety and security.

Solar PV (Photo Voltaic) panels were fitted on the roof, while EV (Electric Vehicle) chargers have been installed outside the property by Barton Knight Energy electricians in Horsham.

Maria Mills, Active Prospects’ CEO, commented: “We are thrilled to announce the development of our new service in Horsham. Our team is passionate about making a difference and helping people to live more independently. We hope that this service will offer a transformative experience for people with complex health needs.”

Paul Vine joins board of Barton Knight Energy

Barton Knight Energy, sister company of Barton Knight Electrical, has appointed Commercial Director Paul Vine to its executive board. Paul was invited to join in mid-2024 by long-established electrical contractor Barton Knight Group, in order to launch its renewable energy branch.

“I’m passionate about renewable energy technologies,” comments Paul. “The market is going through a step-change at the moment with more options available than ever before.  It’s crucial to choose the right combination of options from solar PV to heat pumps; automated demand response to voltage optimisation; waste-to-energy storage to Battery Energy Storage (BESS) and more. It’s also important to navigate confidently through the variety of financed options available from Capex to Power Purchase Agreements (PPA). With Barton Knight Energy I can help homeowners and businesses meet their cost, energy efficiency, and sustainability goals. Everything I do is underpinned by my commitment to net zero and redressing fuel poverty.”

Barton Knight Energy is the Group’s latest venture, having installed numerous EV chargers over the past five years as Barton Knight Electrical and worked with NHS Trusts to fit infrastructure allowing excess power to be fed back into the grid (UK Power Network).

“Our team of electricians had a lot of experience in the field already,” explains Matthew Barton, Managing Director of the Barton Knight Group. “Many of our existing customers – homeowners, landlords, and businesses – had asked us for more renewable energy products. It was an easy decision to expand the company. Our financial stability meant we could invest in a division that specialises in this sector. With Paul on board we’re also able to offer strategic consultancy on energy use and procurement.”

Christmas cheer for Newham Hospital

We were delighted to donate this gorgeous Christmas tree for the entrance of Newham Hospital this year – a 15-foot Norway Spruce supplied by Jeremy Aves of Deliver Me a Christmas Tree. We paid for the tree, installation, stand and light hire, sandbags, collection and recycling.

Newham Hospital is part of Barts Health NHS Trust, a regular client of the Barton Knight Group.

Exhibiting at the UK Careers Fair, Guildford

Our staff had a busy stand at the UK Careers Fair in October, at G Live in Guildford. We exhibited as our parent company, Barton Knight Group, on behalf of Barton Knight Electrical and Barton Knight Contracting.

We work with local colleges to hire apprentices, but we’re always looking for qualified electricians to join our teams that work across London and the Home Counties. If you’re interested in joining us, send your CV via our online form here.
