Emergency Lighting

Emergency Lighting

To ensure safe evacuation in the event of a fire or and emergency, all businesses and organisations are legally required to provide and maintain adequate emergency lighting, which must confirm to BS 5266.

Emergency lighting should be inspected and tested annually by a surveyor to ensure the fittings are fit for purpose, in accordance with BS 50172 and BS 5266, with the results recorded in a logbook.

Barton Knight Electrical offers Fire Risk Assessment or Emergency Lighting Compliance surveys, inspection, testing and maintenance as well as installation of emergency lighting, for residential, commercial and industrial properties. Installation & Maintenance of Fire Alarm Systems
If you have ever experienced the devastating effects of fire on a business then you may well know the importance of having a fire alarm system in place. It is not difficult to imagine the catastrophic effects fire can have. 80 percent of organisations that have a major fire cease trading within 3 years making fire prevention a great investment in your business.

Fire alarm systems are one of the best investments a business can make to ensure it is protected from fire. Disruption to business such as loss of data or key business equipment can take time to replace or is irreplaceable.

For staff safety, what systems are in place to prevent injury or the loss of life? If you have the right fire alarm installed in your premises it means that your staff and visitors will be safe and even if a fire does break out, they can safely escape from the building.

Below are typical systems we can supply, install and commission. All systems and services are approved by BAFE which ensures you comply with current Fire Safety Law and the system has been fitted by an approved company.

Conventional Fire Alarm Systems
Conventional fire alarm systems are the entry level for most fire system requirements. These alarms are suitable for small offices, nurseries, small hotels, warehouses, shops and any small business.

Twin Wire Fire Alarm Systems
Twin wire fire alarm systems are similar to a conventional system as they have detection zones. The main advantage of twin-wire systems is you can put sounders on the detection circuit which means you can save on the cost of having to wire additional sounder circuits.

Addressable Fire Alarms Systems
Addressable fire systems transmit data over the detection circuit that provides intricate information for the user including the exact location of the fire. Addressable fire alarm systems are ideal for larger premises such as hotels, office blocks and large factories.

Automatic Fire Detection
Commonly used in most areas where a fire may occur from combustible materials such as paper, wood and textiles.

Wireless (Radio) Alarm Systems
Radio fire alarms (also known as wireless fire alarms) are the same as a standard analogue addressable fire alarm system but with the advantage of no wires to interlink the detection and sounders. Wireless fire alarms are ideal for premises with multiple buildings such as schools, colleges or science parks.

Remote Monitoring
Once you have the right system in place you should then consider how to respond to an alarm out of working hours. Barton Electrical Services has the solution with a remote monitoring service.

Landlords’ Testing & Inspection (EICR)

New laws introduced on 1 July 2020 create an obligation on landlords to ensure that their tenanted properties are electrically safe.

The Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rented Sector (England) Regulations 2020 places a continuous duty on landlords in England to maintain their property to the electrical safety standards and to have evidence of this. This means your property must meet the 18th Edition of the Wiring Regulations and you must have a report that shows this from a qualified person.

Breach of this duty can result in fines of up to £30,000 and being ordered to perform remedial work.

At Barton Knight Electrical we understand the need to be flexible, professional and responsive for our landlord customers. All our electrical testing & inspection visits are undertaken with the minimum of fuss and upheaval while providing a thorough service.
